The tent I take camping is one that I have had for about 10 years now, and it still works great. It has held out through many camping trips over the years. It is a self erecting pop-up tent, so set up is super fast and take down is a breeze.
I recommend pop up tents to every camper I encounter because they are so practical.
The best trait of my pop up tent is the fact that is folds down to no more than 1.5 inches tall and so that saves a bunch of packing space.
Having young children running around, I don't have much time to do anything but make sure they are staying safe, so that is another reason why the pop up tent is great for me. To set it up all I have to do is literally take off an elastic band and the tent jumps right up in less than a second.
One bad thing about it is that it is very light weight.
A stiff wind could blow it away, but that can easily be prevented by using tent stakes, I just prefer not to.
My pop up tent only fits about 3 people, although we have managed to smash 2 adults and 3 small children into it before. I am thinking about buying a larger pop up tent if there is such a thing.
Our family usually camps throughout Washington state and Oregon state, and we occasionally run into wild animals that I don't feel very safe around. Once I jump into our tent though, for some reason I start to feel safe.
