msr board room tent specs

The MSR Board Room tent is an 8 person tent made for spacious & comfortable family camping trips. Learn more about MSR's best 8 man tent with our honest review.

If you thought the MSR Stormking was big, wait till you get a load of the Board Room tent.

Unfortunately, this tent is no longer made. But we will leave the review up for a reference point.

This latest in the line of great products from a fantastic manufacturer is a truly massive shelter that sleeps eight.

But the Board Room isn't just a camping tent. The addition of myriad add-ons allows you to reconfigure the floor plan of the tent to suit your every need under any weather conditions.

As the name suggests, you can turn the Board Room into a place for a meeting or gathering, or you can use additional screens to create multiple rooms between the same mesh walls.

MSR recognizes that not every camping party is made up of two or three people. If you need five, there's the Stormking. And if you need more, look no further than the Board Room tent.

As spacious as they come, still made with the same precision and quality as their smaller products, the MSR Board Room is the executive suite of the camping tent industry.

MSR Board Room Camping Tent Review

We here at Camping Tent Reviews hold MSR products in pretty high esteem. They may not always hit home runs, but there is rarely a strike out in their whole line-up.

The Board Room tent is a great find for those looking for a central, living room tent for family camping trips.

It certainly isn't right for backpacking trips, where you're staking down in a new location every night.

But if you plan on staying for a length of time at one location with a large group of campers, this may be just what you're looking for.

Some of the Board Room tent's benefits are:

  • A great amount of interior living space
  • A comparatively low price
  • A durable, sturdy construction

Are there any drawbacks to choosing this eight-person tent over another model from a different brand? Sure. There always are. Some of these include:

  • Condensation collection
  • Floorless without footprint

Whether or not you want to spend hundreds of dollars on this particular model of family-size tent is ultimately up to you. All we at Camping Tent Reviews ask of you is to give it your consideration. It's a great product that sits at the top of its class and deserves the once-over from you.

MSR Board Room Tent: Advantages

With 96 square feet of interior living space, MSR's massive Board Room tent is just about as roomy as they come. And don't worry about bonking your head on the ceiling: the peak height is almost seven feet.

Compared to the MSR Stormking ($1,000) which only sleeps five, the Board Room is practically a steal. Selling at under $800, this extra large structure is a deal that can't be ignored by those looking for such a tent.

By most accounts, the MSR Board Room tent isn't just big; it's also tough.

Yes, it's only classified as a two-season tent, but it can stand strong against a lot of extreme weather conditions.

MSR Board Room Tent: Disadvantages

There have been a number of reports that the Board Room tent collects much more condensation than other tents of its class. This is a problem that is common in the camping tent industry.

Perhaps if the ventilation were a bit better (even with the two end doors and one side door, it's hard to stay ventilated in bad weather conditions) the condensation might be less severe.

Unless you purchase the footprint with the Board Room, this shelter is floorless.

This isn't a problem if you want to use the shelter for a simple meeting space in sunny weather. But if you want to sleep in it or avoid the rain under its roof, you'll just have to spend the money on the footprint.

MSR Board Room: Consumer Reviews

Consumers like:

  • Ultra lightweight
  • Fantastic fly design
  • Super easy assembly
  • Spacious
Consumers don't like:

  • Rain-permitting door
  • Too expensive
  • Uneven floor

Compared to other tents of its class, the $800 MSR Board Room is a fantastic deal. You can sleep eight people comfortably, or purchase the mesh wall add-ons and create a whole series of private rooms inside.

If you want something portable, this 30-pound shelter probably isn't the best choice. But for a stationary shelter that will hold up well in bad weather (provided you've purchased the footprint), then you should have your eye on the MSR Board Room.
