Kelty Teton 4 Tent Reviews
Top Four Person Backpacking Tents

The Kelty Teton 4 Tent is economical, lightweight, and easy to pitch.

Unsurprisingly, owners rate Kelty Teton Tents the best backpacking shelter they ever purchased.

Once again, the Kelty Tent Company has produced a shelter that incorporates all of their company's trademarks: inexpensive, durable, and reliable.

While Kelty Teton Tents are not ultralight nor are they large family camping tents with wall dividers and numerous rooms, they are a bare-bones, reliable shelter that will last you years.

For families introducing kids to backpacking or want a no-frills car camping tent, the Kelty Teton 4 person tent is made for you.

A quick note: Although the Teton tent is discontinued, this review will be kept up for historical purposes.

Kelty Teton 4 Tent

It's not everyday that you find consumer tent reviews positive across the board. But almost all owners of Kelty Teton 4 Tents love their shelter thanks to its many useful features:

  • Water tight walls keep water out and your family dry

  • Pitches in minutes, which is a priceless luxury

  • Lightweight - Few family backpacking tents are as inexpensive and weigh less than 8 pounds

  • Excellent ventilation so your family's comfortable through the night

While this family tent is not a luxurious palace, it can be useful for backpacking or car camping.

Unless you require luxury in the woods, this shelter will easily meet your needs.

For introducing your kids to backpacking, you couldn't purchase a better tent than the Teton Four.

The Kelty Teton 4 Footprint

A tent footprint can help extend the lifespan of your shelter. Camping enthusiasts will debate for hours whether you need one or not -- but only your needs can decide that.

It weighs 14 oz.

Kelty Teton 4 Tents: Advantages

The Teton 4 Tent Specs

The best aspect of Teton backpacking tents is the fact that they weigh less than 8 pounds and cost around $150 at (note: the tent is discontinued, however we occasionally find it available at

This one-two combination punch makes them hard to resist.

If camping in a dry area and you have no fear of rain, the fly can be taken off and you have a perfect view of the open night sky above. Priceless.

Add in the fact that Kelty Teton reviews rave about how it's easy to pitch, has excellent airflow, and doesn't let a drop of rain in--well, it makes a very strong argument for purchasing a Teton 4 person, 3 season shelter.

Kelty Teton 4 Tents: Disadvantages

If using a Teton for car camping, you will likely be cramped. If you're fine getting cozy, then it's not a problem. But 54.4 square feet is a tight squeeze for a car camping tent.

A few consumers have complained about the rainfly construction. Since so many Kelty Teton reviews claim the shelter is waterproof, it seems as if an occasional shelter is either poorly constructed or the owners didn't pull the fly taut.

Many camping tents are reviewed as being bad for rainy weather. Sometimes this is because the rainfly is difficult to fully extend and it must be pulled taut in order to work. It appears as if this may be an issue with Kelty Teton 4 Tents, too.
