For any real camping adventure, save your money and
buy a real tent that's reliable in poor weather.

While the Ridgeway by Kelty series provides ample lounge space, this is not a real Kelty tent. They are poorly built with the worst materials possible.

Kelty Ridgeway Review

Both the Sonoma Cabin Dome and the Highlander 8 Man Family Cabin offer zero innovation. They do their best to replicate other successful family camping tents by including:

• Easy set-up - Ridgeway tents can be pitched in approximately 10 minutes
  
  
• Numerous rooms - Sonoma Cabin has 4 rooms while the Highlander has 2
  
  
• Ventilation - Screen rooms provide ventilation, but the windows are few and far between. Family tents need sufficient ventilation

While these features are beneficial in typical dome family tents for camping, when implemented in shoddy shelters, such as the Ridgeway by Kelty, they become useless.

For instance, what's the use of a screened room if there aren't enough windows to provide adequate ventilation?

Also, with numerous rooms that will have traffic filtering in and out of, your family needs zippers that are durable. Camping tent reviews of the Kelty Ridgeway Highlander 8 and Sonoma found the zippers to jam easily.

Kelty Ridgeway Tents: Advantages

The only advantage either of these large dome, family camping tents have is price. However, you get what you pay for.

While Ridgeway Tents provide plenty of space to stretch out at 1/3 the price of other Kelty family tents, they will not meet your needs (unless you're camping in the backyard).

Kelty Ridgeway Tents: Disadvantages

Oh, where to begin?

The zippers break and jam easily... Sonoma has no floor in the screened in area... Ridgeway tent seams rip easily... poor ventilation... need more?

At least the Ridgeway Highlander 8 has a gear loft and a full screen roof. But is that enough to make you purchase a tent for introducing your family to camping? At Camping Tent Reviews, we surely wouldn't.
