If you're hunting for a new backpacking tent or camping shelter, give these best Black Diamond tents a closer look.
Here's a closer look at several different models of various single-, two-, and three-person Black Diamond tents:
![]() The Black Diamond HiLight Tent |
There are a number of disadvantages in buying the Black Diamond HiLight Tent instead of other, two man backpacking tents.
Though the good generally outweighs the bad with the Black Diamond HiLight tent, you may want to broaden your search if you are in the market for a 2 person camping tent.
That being said, there are a great many positive aspects of this tent, too.

The Bad:
![]() The Black Diamond Lightsabre Bivy |
For the aggressive mountaineer who may need to find shelter fast, the Lightsabre is a single-person Black Diamond shelter that may be just the ticket.
Bivy sacks aren't for everyone, especially those not used to such tight sleeping quarters.
But for those who are in the market for such a shelter, you really can't do much better than Black Diamond's best bivy sack, the Lightsabre.
Pros:
Cons:
![]() The Black Diamond MesaTent |
The Black Diamond Mesa Tent has been raved about to no end by the online consumer review community.
It's a two-person shelter that is suitable for three seasons (though it may really be used for all four quite comfortably).
Easy to assemble and extraordinarily compactable (even though it has a 32.5 square foot area), the Mesa camping tent is one of the best options in the Black Diamond tents line for portability and design.
It may, in fact, be one of the best two person tents of any brand out there. Period.
Pros:
Cons:
![]() The Black Diamond Skylight Tent |
The versatility of the Black Diamond Skylight is what makes this shelter one of the best tents the serious campers.
Its hybrid design allows you to stay cool in warm weather, warm in cool weather, and dry in all weather.
It's also one of the most durable of all Black Diamond tents.
A few of the drawbacks include:
But rest assured that the drawbacks are far overshadowed by the Black Diamond Skylight tent's positive reviews.
![]() The Black Diamond Vista Tent |
There are definitely some negative aspects to the Black Diamond Vista (making it simply a good tent, as opposed to a great one), but it would still be in your best interest to give it a moment of your time.
Examining this product closely, you'll find that it's durable, pitches within minutes, and provides comfortable living quarters.
You'll also find, however, that it attracts a great number of flies.
The Black Diamond company says that this is due to the materials the tent is made from.
Yes, you read that correctly. The Black Diamond Vista camping tent attracts flies. More flies than your body odor after a day of backpacking.
If you air it out over the weekend before your trip, you'll greatly reduce the number of bugs that will invade your space. But this should never have been a problem to begin with.
You can do better than the Vista, for sure, but it still rates fairly high among its competitors.
![]() The Black Diamond Mirage Tent |
Tough and super lightweight, the Black Diamond Mirage is a sight to behold. Weighing in at a mere 3 lbs 15 oz, it's almost unbelievable just how durable and lightweight this two man, backpacking tent is.
The price leaves something to be desired, however. At almost $300, the Mirage shouldn't have nearly as many drawbacks as it does.
But did you read how much this ultralight backpacking tent weighs? 3 pounds. 15 ounces. $300 is a great price for one of the best, lightweight Black Diamond tents for backpacking.

The Bad:
![]() The Black Diamond Mega Light Tent |
The Black Diamond Mega Light tent isn't suited to everyone's needs, but it is one of the best tents and perfect for a specific niche of campers and backpackers.
This Black Diamond shelter falls in with a whole line of floorless simple structures that are super fast to erect.
They are lighter than bivy sacks, but offer up a whole lot more interior acreage.
And, when staked down well, the Mega Light can stand up to whatever Mather Nature decides to throw its way, despite its ultra light weight.
This is one serious, ultralight backpacking tent--excuse us, backpacking shelter. Tents have floors.
Pros:
Cons:
This member of the Black Diamond Tents family is a versatile and lightweight shelter that's perfect for the camper on the move.
Like the Mega Light, this is a floorless shelter that can be set up virtually anywhere: the bed of your pickup truck, in a dug out snow shelter, or hung from a nearby tree (but Camping Tent Reviews doesn't endorse nor recommend the last one).
Unfortunately, the Megamid doesn't stake down nearly as well as the Mega Light, though. Bugs and wind can make their way inside this shelter fairly easily.
Although the Megamid is set at a decent price, the editors at Camping Tent Reviews recommend buying the Mega Light instead.
![]() Black Diamond Bivy Sacks |
If you are in the market for a single-person tent, look no further than Black Diamond's fantastic selection of bivy sacks.
They may not be for everyone (some people are put off by their somewhat claustrophobic nature), but for those who are specifically looking for a bivy sack, Black Diamond is the manufacturer of some of the best.
The Bipod, Tripod, and Lightsabre are three of the best bivy sacks available to you today.
Each has their own positives and negatives (side sleepers may want to skip the Bipod in favor of the Tripod, for instance), but none of the drawbacks are bad enough to keep you from giving them your full attention.
Some of the best advantages to choosing a Black Diamond bivy sack as your next shelter include:
![]() The Black Diamond Firstlight Tent |
The Black Diamond Firstlight tent is perfect for campers who don't want to add even an extra ounce to the weight they carry.
If you are conscious of everything on your back, but still want a shelter that is made of really tough materials, do yourself a favor and check out this Black Diamond shelter.
With such a simple design, it's a wonder that this tent doesn't just collapse in rough weather. But rest easy: it won't.
The Firstlight camping tent is made from some of the toughest, most durable, and high-tech materials on the market.
